ITEM #4372: PARKER 51 BALLPOINT SET IN BURGUNDY. This is not the more brown "Dark Burgundy", but the more red "Burgundy". With un-flawed Lustraloy caps and Chrome trim. Aerometric standard sized fountain pen has a Fine nib and the ballpoint has a metal thread insert. I noticed the very clean filling unit is marked "51 SPECIAL" although the caps have marbled silver/grey jewels rather than the black jewels used in a 51 Special. Also, the caps are a frosty Lustraloy rather than the polished chrome looking nes typical of Special caps. I haven't changed the filling unit or the jewels, and I bought this set at an estate sale, appearing to be unused, so I believe this set came from Parker this way, with mixed parts from two versions of the 51. The box is very clean, inside and out, but the sprimng is sprung.

ITEM #5659: SOLID 14K GOLD PARKER 51 BARREL. This barrel is unmarked (This might be part of a prototype), but a gold bug colleague of mine used an x-ray spectrometer which verified that it is solid 14K gold. The test results are shown in a photo below. There is no lined pattern, the surface is smooth. My 51 Presidential has a smooth surface also and this barrel fits it.
If you have a Presidential with someone's name engraved or an otherwise damaged or missing barrel, this may be a find for you. This barrel had a ding that was repaired by a gold smith, but you'll need a loupe and good light to find it.

Lustraloy caps. Ballpoint has metal thread insert and the original filler with no writing on it and aa yellowed white plastic ratchet on top. This filler has long since dried-out, but the set comes with a writing modern replacement filler. The Demi sized fountain pen has a Medium 14K nib and has never been inked, however, someone has scribbled on the "SMART SET" pamphlet sing something like a Liquid Lead pencil. No date code on the barrel. Made in USA.
